Grandma’s Prayer Group
“The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace”
(Numbers 6:24-26 NIV).
Within 2 hours God had answered the prayer!
It was October 6, 2015. I had no idea “today was the day” I was going to get the confirmation from God to start a prayer group for Grandmas. God had been impressing upon me, for years, that I would lead a Grandma’s prayer group.
Ladies from our church small group had gathered for our Tuesday Bible study. Our leader was collecting prayer requests when I felt a rather firm nudge from God, prompting me to ask for prayer to start the Grandma’s prayer group.
Evidently, the time had now arrived, because within 2 hours of the prayer request, I was walking along a beautiful lake trail with a friend and we discovered God had been putting the desire to pray with and minister to Grandmas in both of our hearts!
Not long afterward, God brought several Grandmas to start our prayer group. What a delight it has been to get to know these women who love and pray for their families. We pray scripture and pray over specific concerns for our children and grandchildren. It’s also a wonderful time to support each other and celebrate with birthday lunches or an ear to listen when someone is going through a hard time.
Is there anything that makes your “heart sing” the way children and grandchildren do? Ours are truly a gift from God and we love and appreciate them so much!
I encourage you to gather a few Grandmas in your life and pray for your “special gifts from God”. We’ve met in our homes, the mall’s food court, the church’s gathering place, restaurants, and this fall we would like to prayer walk on local lake trails. Praying over the phone with those who live far away, is another option. Give it a try and your family will be blessed and you will be a blessing to others.
Search God’s promises and pray them for your young or adult children and grandchildren. Verses about God’s protection, provision, instruction, and wisdom abound throughout the Bible. We ended many of our prayer meetings with a blessing for our children and grandchildren from Numbers 6:24-25. There’s no limit as to how many blessings you can pray for them!
Whether you are a Grandma who lives next door to her little ones or a Grandma who lives across the country or beyond from family, you are always close enough to the Father to speak to Him about your children and grandchildren. He, unlike us, has direct access to them at all times and has all the power needed to provide exactly what they need at any moment. Prayers for your children and grandchildren are the best legacy you can leave!
Do you have a favorite verse you like to pray for the children in your life? Please consider sharing it in the comments below so we can pray it over our families, too. God bless you and keep you.
It’s all about Jesus! To God be the glory!
Blessings and love, Gayle

What a delight to see how God has worked in your life! I spent several days with my grandsons and two of my 3 sons last week. I realize more and more every day the importance of praying for our children and grandchildren. God is the one to soften hearts to accept and follow His plan. When I returned from the trip, a friend gave me the book “Who Sang The First Song?” by Ellie Holcomb to read to the grandchildren. The book is great and a way to plants seeds of God’s presence.
