Using God-Given Talents

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Colossians 3:17 NIV).

It’s a beautiful thing to watch someone use their talents and spiritual gifts for the glory of God! What are your God-given talents? How are you using them to bless others and fulfill your purpose?

Recently, some of our family members were able to gather together for my mom’s 80th birthday celebration. It was wonderful watching them jump in and do what came naturally. God opened my eyes to really appreciate how He gives everyone talents to serve.

Talents and spiritual gifts involving cooking, sewing, home repairs, baking, technology, love, joy, kindness, service, encouragement, evangelism, Bible study, prayer, and organization were all on display in natural ways. Those who could not attend contributed from a distance by calling and offering contributions to a gift.

It was all done with an “easy does it” attitude. It all came naturally.

Had I tried to do home repairs or solve computer issues, it would not have been pretty- because those are not my talents. However, for people gifted in these areas, their talents seem to flow effortlessly and bless everyone involved.

This Thanksgiving, who do you know that blesses you using their God-given talents? Ask God to open your eyes to those in your path and thank them for the way they serve.

On a day when people are eating turkey and stuffing–don’t “stuff your talents.” Use them to bless others and show them the love of Jesus.

Is there someone in your life who has God-given talents that bless you? I invite you to leave a comment below sharing how they have encouraged you.

Have a blessed Thanksgiving day and year as we all give thanks for the many blessings God has given us. In particular, giving thanks for the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. Let us use our talents to glorify Him.

And, “Happy 80th Birthday again, Mama. I am so thankful for you. Love you!”

It’s all about Jesus! To God be the glory!
Blessings and love, Gayle
